A Year in Change

me myself and i

1 year and 5 months ago I made the biggest change, made one of the biggest decisions I could ever make! That was to change my life forever! I never struggled with weight as a child, I was actually underweight for most of my childhood, even as a freshman in high school I only weighed in at 95 pounds.

That caught up with me over the years though, slowly…it started when I first got married and money being tight we ate a lot of hamburger helper and pasta. Then a few years later we moved and that brought me into a slow depression just being away from family and friends, so as the years went on I slowly started adding weight into my life!

When my mom passed away in September of 2005 that is when I really started packing on the weight. I never turned to food for comfort it was actually the exact opposite. I was depressed so I didn’t eat. When I did eat it was a large portion and it wasn’t healthy food and I lived on Coke and Mt. Dew! That combination was just as bad for me as eating a lot of food throughout the day, I was putting my body into starvation mode so whatever I did eat immediately got stored as fat!

I was a pretty healthy fat girl didn’t have diabetes yet but I was borderline, my heaviest was 245 pounds. About 8 years ago my husband and I decided to make a lifestyle change, we stopped eating out, we took pop out of our lives and we started working out. Things were looking up, then BAM….life got in the way and everything went back to the way things were and we both put on more weight.

He started searching into weight loss surgery before I did and knew it was for him,  I on the other hand was not totally convinced, I had it in my head that I lost weight before I could do it again. After going to meetings with him and hearing success stories I knew that I needed this tool to help me get to where I wanted to be!

That is the one thing people who haven’t had weight loss surgery don’t understand, this IS NOT  a quick fix, it is just a TOOL! You still have to put in a lot of work, it’s not a diet it’s not a fad, it is a complete lifestyle change!

I would not change my decision though not even for a million dollars, I know that me having surgery was the best thing for me! I have had a lot of ups and downs with it, it’s hard to get the hang of everything you need to do to be successful, and I still struggle to this day BUT I am closer to where I want to be than I have been in a very long time!

Some of the pictures shown above are from me shortly before my surgery journey began. You will get to hear more of my journey, tips, tricks, healthy recipes and so much more if you stick around. In addition I hope to add other inspirational people I have met through my journey to help you. I am not trying to talk anyone into surgery (however if you have been thinking of it, I would love to answer any questions you may have). I really just want to help promote a healthy lifestyle and motivate anyone out there that needs to lose some weight.

xoxo
